Duntroon

Duntroon

Much of modern Canberra lies on what was originally Robert Campbell’s property Pialligo.

The elegant Duntroon homestead had been completed by Campbell in 1833, only a year prior to Eyre arriving at Woodlands. At the time, it was the only home in the district to boast glass windows rather than wooden shutters. Today it is situated just outside of the capital, Canberra. It has become Australia’s leading military academy and the original homestead is used as the Officers’ Mess.
